Why change a winning formula?? The hotel is awesome- we are staying at the Radisson and are negotiating room rates with the hotel this week.
Staff are excited to start the planning for another awesome year!
We are getting ready to open registration, so stay tuned :-)
Norway Westie Fest <3 Just another event you might say...This event is special to me since it happens in my hometown, organized by myself, my boyfriend, and the whole west coast swing community in Trondheim. It is unbelievable- the whole city contributes to make this event awesome! We might not be the biggest event in Europe, nor are we the biggest city in Norway, but I dare to say that we have the most awesome west coast swing community a dancer can wish for <3
We started this adventure in 2013. We have now been running the event for 4 years, and it keeps getting better and better. The reason we succeed are the people involved all year around- we have dancers in this city that support each other and the event in the most incredible way. I wish we could have all the dancers in Trondheim within the NWF-team, but it is just not possible to organize an event like that. Know that you are all apart of it even if you are not in the team <3 We also have dancers all around the different cities in Norway supporting our event every year. Thank you- without the support of dancers from the whole country this would not be possible!
We have an awesome team that works really hard every year in order to make the event grow, and to make our visitors feel welcome. It is so much to say about each member of the team I could cover a small book. Some where new to the team this year, but did such a fantastic job that you would think this was experienced people. When this team put their heads together magic happens <3 Magic can happen in many ways- like a mafia pre-party movie announcement, a new dance floor, an amazingly huge Project Swing Class (85+ people), amazing ballroom lights, home-nitted headbands, a fun twist on the pro-show involving a cow and a tailor (??!!), and of course a smoothly run registration/competition desk and scoring prosess! Thank you all- Veronika G Langmo, Jonas André Bjørnsvik, Sigri Krogset, Ida Hemmingby, Britt Karin Lien, Jon Arne Haugen, Morten Mathisen, Linda K. Grøtting Knudsen, Elisa Magnanelli, Roar Hugudal, Rickard Knutsson, Ola Krogset, Mats Larsen <3
Our amazing line-up this year makes the icing on the cake! We have rehired some of our pros for many years now,- just because we know they add magic to our event :-) Thank you Lee Easton, Fabienne Henshall, Catriona Wiles, Emeline Rochefeuille, Maxence Virginie Wcs Pro, Michael Kielbasa for being with us again. This year we added Maxime Zzaoui and Torri Zzaoui to our line-up knowing that they would add some awesomeness to it all :-) Which they did, both with performances, workshops, social dancing, and Torri as a headjudge! Thank you!!!
A huge thank you also to Emeline Rochefeuille, Neil Mayes and Jan-Roger Røys, our DJs who did an incredible job with both competition music and music for social dancing. You guys rock!
It is just pure joy to have the possibility to run the event in the most lovely ballroom of the Radisson Blu Royal Garden Hotel- in the middle of the city, decorated by amazing lights by my superman Mats Larsen who just goes out of his way to help me with this event <3 Thank you also to Sergey Khakhlev for beautiful photos that were running as background decorations during the event, and are popping up everywhere on Facebook this week. It gives us memories that last a lifetime :-) And once again an amazing soundsystem kept us rocking on the dance floor all day and night, provided by my father in law Jan Borge Larsen - thank you :-)
We are overwhelmed by the warm atmosphere at the event, and by all the feedback we have gotten after its end. We hope for another great year next year and hoping that more of our international friends will discover our magic here in Trondheim <3 Thank you to all the dancers who made this event special this year, and save the date (September 14th-17th 2017) and help us create more magic next year
Theme-parties are way too often put into the eventschedule without much thoughts or plans around it, and are often displayed only in the schedule in a less creative way.
At NWF we have not had much theme parties before. Mostly because of experience from other events where it often ends up with noone dressing up, since the dancers travelling a long way feel it is an extra burden to be bringing extra luggage just for one party.
This year we came across a really unique opportunity at the hotel. They gave us the possibility to use one of the city`s best kept secrets- a really cool club called "The Yacht Club". The club is located on the hotel premisses, and used to be open in the 80`s, are now closed for the public, but the hotel allows eventorganizers to use it on special request.
When we came across this, we decided that this is where we must have the pre-party- and with the cool athmosphere in this club we must have a suitable, but simple theme. The theme had to reflect the same style as the club itself, and it had to be simple so that people would come to the party dressed up according to the theme. Our choice of theme for 2016 is: MAFIA.
Mafia should be easy enough. You can bring a hat, a sigar (not lit since it is forbidden to smoke inside in all bars/restaurants in Norway) or a special suit you are just dying to use ;)
The team of NWF started with an idea of only doing a photo of the theme all dressed up in Mafia clothes- for announcement, and we were planning to take the photo at "The Yacht Club"- but someone (our technical/light/sound/PR- guy) had other plans.."Let`s make a movie!!"
Somewhat sceptical to this sudden change of plans, the team helped out in order to find props and ideas and dressed up in a really cool way. Some were asked to be more sexy than others- with less clothes than they felt confortable in, some doing more speaking than they were first prepared for, and one guy only got 1 assignment- to comb his hair. LOL ;-) And he actually dropped the comb during filming doing this one special assignment. You can`t imagine how much fun we had with this!!! All this to make it as real as possible and the team all went 120 % into it in order to make this an awesome filmset.
"What?! I need to show someone how I dance??! Sounds terrifying :-/"
Audition for danceclasses is new to some dancers, but it is not at all as scary as you think! When we dance and go to classes, we learn best when the content of the class fits our own level- so we choose to do this so that everyone will get the best learningexperience as possible.
The audition is simply a few dances that can tell the teachers more about the level of the students. This way the teachers will know what technique you can master, and what technique you need to improve in your dance. The audition is not about the amount of patterns you can show, or "showing off" in general. It is not a competition with others.
In auditions we wil rotate partners like we do in class. In some cases the teachers can see the level already from the first dance, and you might be told to dance again in another level. The teachers are not there to "put you down"- they are simply there to check if everyone has registered on the right level. Our leveldescription is very "to-the-point", so if you have followed our instructions there, you are probably on the right level ;) Just relax; dance as if you are socialdancing with friends.
The level often vary from country to country, or from one event to another, so you might end up in a different level here compared to a level you are in when you take classes in other countries.
"Why is there no audition for level 5?"
Level 5 is for experienced dancers. The easiest way measure this is to ask if you compete, and if you have points for Intermediate or Advanced division. If dancers have points for the higher competitiondivisions, we can be certain that they are on the right level and that they belong to this group. Therefore audition for this level is not needed. If the teachers see people that should be in this group for Level 4 auditions- they will put them up, because one can certainly be a very experienced and good dancer without the competitionpoints! This might happen to those who don`t compete at all, or haven`t competed enough to get these points.
" I can`t make it in time for auditions".
You should do your best to be there in time for auditions. It is an important part of the weekend. If you are arriving late, and can`t make it to auditions, you will be put in the level you registered for or for a lower level if the class is full due to genderbalancing after the auditions. The teachers will have a look at your dancing in class, and decide if you belong there or not.
Short summery of this auditionpost: Don`t be scared- Just have fun and dance people ;)
Strolling around Trondheim today you can see archeologists that are looking for Viking treasures under the ground in the city center. Olav Tryggvason is watching over the city here, and you might see him around when you go on our guided tour on the Friday of the event :) Olav was the founder of the city of Trondheim in year 997, and the city served as the capital of Norway during the Viking Age. King Olav is most known for bringing Christianity to Norway. He was our king for 5 years. We will not have a Viking themeparty at NWF2016, but you might find that our J&J trophees are inspired from our countrys history of Vikings :)
Almost all flights are booked! Most of our pro`s are coming to Trondheim for the pre-party on Thursday. Everybody should be there ;) #norwaywestiefest2016
Many in the team of NWF are supporting Slingshot Swing this weekend, and travelling to Oslo! We have prepared ourselves with new NWF clothing collection and a new roll-up. Let`s westie in Oslo ;-)
We launched our promovideo today! It turned out great, and reflects the fun we had last year. You can find it on the main page of the website :-)
Bromance offer is now closed, and we have an amount of leaders that helped us reduce the waitinglist.
